About me

Because of my interdisciplinary and regional interest, AGYA has been a wonderful opportunity to get inspired and delve into new and promising fields of research.

I am a communication and media studies scholar with a strong interest in the MENA region and in comparative approaches. In my research, I combine communication studies with political sciences, cultural and area studies. The most rewarding projects were, firstly, a student exchange on “Comparative Perspectives on Refugee Politics” between Germany and Lebanon in 2017. Fieldwork and visits were a true eye-opener for the students and resulted in blog publications and an exhibition. Secondly, the workshop “Learning lessons on reconciliation from Bosnia and Herzegovina” in 2018 was a major turning point for me in understanding problems that post-conflict countries face. As person-in-charge of the Transformation Working Group, I organized our field trip in Bosnia and Herzegovina in which we explored opportunities and pitfalls of reconciliation politics in post-conflict countries and discussed them with scholars from current conflict countries from the Arab World, including Syria, Yemen, Libya and Iraq. As an alumna, I engage in Tandem Projects, like a book publication on Arab Media Systems.
