Summer School Quantum Technology

Summer School

One of the main challenges for students researching new materials is the interdisciplinary character of this research area, which is not fully matched in the student’s education. This project aimed to fill the gap by providing additional interdisciplinary training opportunities and to discuss respective curricular development.

Fostering research on the properties of new materials is considered a prerequisite for developing innovative energy technologies. Such research requires highly equipped laboratories to which access is currently unfortunately limited and restricted. Therefore, the project also aimed at connecting active scientists in this field with different research facilities to join forces and make the research resources they have visible and usable for colleagues. At the same time, the interdisciplinary education of students in this field is of great importance since multidisciplinary approaches in this field of research are continuously growing. The online summer school aimed at increasing the interdisciplinary knowledge of students in this field and connecting them to high-ranking researchers and their laboratories.

The summer school was a continuation of workshop series and trainings held recently in Cairo (2019) and online (2020) aiming to present current trends of research at both practical training as well as state-of-the-art research level. This years summer school was an educational program that focused on theoretical and experimental research on quantum materials in energy technologies. The event connected talented students from Arab countries and Germany with international experts on quantum technology. It offered excellent training and networking opportunities in times when laboratories are closed and physical meetings are canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic situation.
