Eine Flucht in Bildern – Drawings of War and Flight
The art-meets-science-project ‘Drawings of War and Flight’ centred on the drawings of Syrian artist couple Ayman Aldarwish and Nasim Kasem. Their artistic work is unique as they both not only reflect their lives in Syria and Palmyra up to 2015, but also document their approximately one-year escape and their first days in Germany in an intensive artistic manner. Thus their images, loaded by political allusions, represent at the same time an internal perspective and become a contemporary source for reflecting on current politics and human destinies. In 40 artworks the artists offer a very personal and at the same time very expressive contribution to the debate on migration, Syria, and Islam.
The exhibition was embedded in an academic program of evening lectures that elucidate important artistic, social and cultural aspects of the artworks and the artists as well as refugees in general. The exhibition is conceived as a touring exhibition and was already displayed Göttingen (Alte Feuerwache) and Berlin (SOS Kinderdorf). In cooperation with the University of Göttingen, SOS-Kinderdorf Berlin, and DAFG – Deutsch-Arabische Freundschaftsgesellschaft e.V.
