Mentoring Program: Backing Ecologists of Sudan to Thrive (BEST) in Times of Crises
This specialised initiative empowers emerging Sudanese ecologists to advance their academic careers amid the ongoing political and environmental challenges in Sudan. Accessible entirely online, BEST ensures that all participants can engage fully from any location, providing an inclusive and transformative experience.
The programme features three structured phases:
- Fundamentals of Ecology, a foundational workshop covering core concepts, theories, and methods in ecology and conservation biology, including biodiversity monitoring and remote sensing technologies;
- Individual Research Project phase, lasting six weeks, where participants work closely with mentors on personalised research projects, receiving guidance on research design, data analysis, and science communication; and a
- Final Symposium, where participants present their findings, exchange knowledge, and broaden their professional networks.
Through BEST, Sudanese ecologists engage in vibrant idea exchanges, explore innovative research paths, and address ecological challenges with fresh perspectives. The programme also serves as a platform for interdisciplinary and global networking, offering 30 selected participants the chance to connect with leading Sudanese researchers worldwide, fostering valuable, lasting professional relationships that enhance current projects and open doors to future collaborations and career opportunities.
