Ahmed Siddig
About me
I am an applied ecologist and associate professor at the University of Khartoum, Sudan. I also serve as adjunct research professor at the Northwest University for Agriculture and Forestry, China) and alumni expert in the Biodiversity Working Group for the DAAD’s climapAfrica initiative. After completing my Ph.D. in Environmental Conservation at the University of Massachusetts, USA, I worked as graduate research assistant at Harvard Forest research site of the Harvard University, USA and postdoctoral fellow e at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and the University of Freiburg, Germany.
My research and teaching experiences have covered a wide range of ecological, climate change, and environmental conservation topics, in various settings spanning from the arid tropics to temperate ecosystems. My research approach is based on a combination of empirical field observations, experiments, and modeling methods. To me, joining AGYA is a great privilege and honor, as I not only can work with my fellow AGYA members on common challenges the Arab countries and Germany are facing, but also learn how to implement principles of innovation, transformation, and multidisciplinarity in my research career.
I will work with my AGYA fellows to develop a recognized, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research approach that focuses primarily on AGYA’s mission in the areas of sustainability and resources, science diplomacy and communication, and empowerment and diversity.
