About me

AGYA offers a unique interdisciplinary interface in which Arab and German partners can connect, collaborate, and innovate.

During my time on AGYA’s steering committee, I helped forge important collaborative ties with scholars and institutions in the Maghreb region, including the Tunisian Academy of Sciences (Beit al-Hikma). Among my most memorable AGYA projects was the science comic called ‘The Rise of the Incredible Salty Salicornia Power Plant', based on a joint paper written by myself and several AGYA colleagues titled, ‘Facing the challenge of sustainable bioenergy production: Could halophytes be part of the solution?’. I also enjoyed co-organizing several high-level scientific events in Tunisia and Germany with my fellow AGYA member Salma Balazadeh, on topics  ranging from technical and ethical issues related to genome editing, to improving the employability of young scholars and, more recently, on plant senescence.

As an alumnus, my commitment to AGYA remains strong. I continue to disseminate knowledge about AGYA in the Maghreb region and participate in the annual selection of new members. I am also excited to continue collaborative scientific activities within the AGYA network. Whether organizing workshops, participating in joint publications or engaging in research stays, I look forward to further strengthening Arab-German research cooperation.
