AGYA Alumni Jointly building bridges into the future
I am the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Al-Quds University in Palestine, as well as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs of all Science Faculties. My current research focuses on the epidemiology of infectious diseases with a special emphasis on the recent Covid-19 pandemic. Other research interests include the extraction, purification and screening of natural and semisynthetic products for their antimicrobial and biological activities (invivo and invitro approaches). I am also researching the molecular diagnosis and epidemiological investigation of bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases with an emphasis on cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries, such as Palestine, Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Furthermore, I investigate the genetic structure and gene diversity of the parasite Leishmania infantum in the MENA region and Southern Europe by using a multi-locus microsatellite typing approach.
AGYA offers an excellent environment in which to establish a multidisciplinary and multinational Arab-German panel for infectious diseases.
AGYA’s network of outstanding researchers will enable Arab scientists in their countries to get involved and communicate with German counterparts on a wide range of issues related to infectious diseases. This includes incidences, current control measures, vaccination, diagnosis, treatment responses, related health policies and systems, mobility effects of humans and animals, and future perspectives.
