German Medieval Studies and the Arab World: Overcoming Disciplinary and Epistemic Boundaries within the Humanities

Abstract

This article sheds light on that it is essential to overcome not only disciplinary but also epistemic boundaries, to collaborate in facing obstacles and thinking about options to explore medieval history together. A still powerful tool is the formation of long-term reliable partnerships with colleagues at different Arab and German universities – some of them are mentioned in this article – which will hopefully have a snowball effect for successful scientific adventures in researching and teaching medieval history in the coming decades.
