Networking Session: Humanizing Smart Cities

The concept of a smart city revolves around using technology and innovation to build urban spaces that are sustainable, efficient, and interconnected. However, these projects often focus on wealthier neighborhoods or business districts, which can deepen the digital divide between well-connected and underserved communities. This imbalance risks worsening existing social and economic inequalities, potentially leaving vulnerable populations even more marginalized

To foster a more inclusive approach to smart cities with equal access to services for all residents, the Working Group Innovation participates in the Twelfth Session of the World Urban Forum. The forum is organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), in Cairo, Egypt, from 4-8 November 2024.

AGYA members present recommendations and visions on human-centred approaches to smart and livable cities, building on the outcomes of previous AGYA projects.
