Mohamed Madkour
About me
As an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Sharjah and a dedicated molecular and clinical biochemist, I am driven by the profound societal implications of interdisciplinary science. My work, at the intersection of metabolic biochemistry, autophagy, and the effects of intermittent fasting, exemplifies the translational potential of integrative biomedical research to address pressing health challenges across the Arab and German regions.
AGYA offers an ideal environment to further develop my unique research portfolio, integrating clinical biochemistry, molecular immunology, and nutritional science, with a special focus on aging, chronic inflammation, and metabolic syndromes. Having co-led diverse international research initiatives and published extensively on topics like gut microbiota, gene polymorphisms, and metabolic modulation via fasting, I aim to contribute methodologically and thematically to AGYA’s Working Group Health and Society. My deep interest in interdisciplinary research drives me to explore synergies between molecular diagnostics, artificial intelligence, and biomedical engineering. I aim to integrate AI-powered tools into diagnostic laboratory workflows to support personalized medicine approaches, and look forward to working towards these goals within AGYA’s intellectually rich research community.
From AGYA, I seek intellectual collaboration, exposure to cross-cultural research methodologies, and sustained engagement with scientists from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. The Academy serves as a platform that enhances my capacity to translate bench research into policy-relevant knowledge, especially regarding non-communicable diseases and lifestyle-driven health disparities in the Arab region.
I envision Arab-German cooperation as a bidirectional bridge where regional health challenges catalyse shared scientific inquiry.
I see opportunities to harmonize data infrastructures, co-create transnational biobanks, and develop culturally sensitive health interventions informed by shared values in science, ethics, and sustainability. AGYA offers a timely and powerful framework to realize this vision.
