AGYA Annual Conference 2016 in Doha, Qatar

AGYA Annual Conference in Doha, Qatar

On the kind invitation of Qatar Foundation, AGYA held its Annual Conference in Doha from 18 to 23 March 2016 in conjunction with the Annual Research Conference in 2016 (ARC'16) of Qatar Foundation. The conference marked the beginning of a new chapter for AGYA: In early 2016, AGYA has received the enormous funding of 4 million Euros for 4 years from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in order to realize interdisciplinary research projects and initiatives at the interface of science and society.

The AGYA members have discussed and expanded their collaborative research projects during the Annual Conference in Doha. With the enormous funding of 4 million Euros, the scientists are able to intensify their research activities through three different types of scientific cooperation: Tandem Projects, Working Group Projects, and Idea Competitions. In such a close collaborative partnership the members intensively learn from and with each other beyond disciplinary boundaries.

Furthermore, the conference focused on the research cooperation between AGYA and Qatari partners. Therefore, high-ranking representatives of research institutions were invited to meet the AGYA members: the Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, Qatar Computing Research Institute and the Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute presented their institutions at the Annual Conference on 20 March 2016.
