Workshop: Sustainable Farming in the Digital Age
How can farmers reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining productive yields? This workshop tackles one of agriculture's most pressing challenges: greenhouse gas emissions and resource inefficiency that threaten both climate goals and long-term farm viability.
By combining cutting-edge Internet-of-Things sensors with Artificial Intelligence-driven analytics, the involved researchers are developing a cloud-based platform that transforms complex environmental data into clear, actionable recommendations for farmers. Real-time monitoring of soil conditions, water use, and emissions becomes the foundation for personalized guidance on irrigation, fertilization, and sustainable land management.
Bridging expertise from the Arab World and Germany, this collaboration creates practical solutions where technology meets agricultural tradition – helping farmers protect ecosystems, enhance productivity, and contribute to global climate targets, one field at a time.
To advance this critical work, the project partners organize a two-day workshop in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), and Nile University, this workshop brings together leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore how digital technologies can transform agricultural sustainability.
Participants will engage in interactive sessions designed to strengthen collaborative research approaches, share knowledge across borders, and develop practical solutions for climate-resilient farming systems. The workshop also includes a practical demonstration on constructing Green House Gas monitoring stations and scenario-planning exercises for agricultural innovation.
