Workshop: Strategies for German-Iraqi Cooperation in Historical Research

As one of the results of the tandem project by AGYA members Jenny Oesterle and Bashar Ibrahim on ‘Historians and Historical Research at Iraqi Universities. A Survey’, this workshop brings together German and Iraqi historians, university presidents, and decision makers to exchange on historical research topics.
The aim of the workshop at the University of Heidelberg is threefold:
1. German and Iraqi historians present and discuss historical research projects;
2. Iraqi scientists are introduced to historical studies at the University of Heidelberg and historians from Heidelberg and other universities present their Iraq related work.
Invited keynote speaker Stefan Maul speaks about his excavations in ancient Niniveh (Mosul) and AGYA Alumnus Jens Scheiner gives a talk on ‘Contexts of Learning in Classical Baghdad’. Bahaam Habeeb and Muhammad Nooruldeen from the University of Kufa each present a lecture on religious architecture and monasteries in Najaf;
3. German and Iraqi historians discuss strategies for further research cooperation with university presidents and deans of both countries.
