About me

I am Junior Professor at the RWTH Aachen University and leader of the Functional Nanoscale Structure Probe and Simulation Laboratory (Funsilab) at the Research Center Jülich. My core expertise lies in the field of theoretical solid-state physics of realistic materials, particularly magnets, magnetic materials for spintronics, surfaces and interfaces with a focus on nanostructures. My goal is to understand physical properties of the building blocks of matter, single atoms or a collection of few atoms. I develop state-of-the-art methodologies based on the so-called ab-initio schemes of complex ground/excited states of nano-objects with a focus on their electronic and transport properties. Recently I have been granted a European Research Council Consolidator Grant with the amount of 2 million Euros for my future research activities.

My goal in joining the AGYA is networking, exchanging and discussing with colleagues from all over the world and fields of sciences in order to generate new ideas and new paths to close the gaps between scientific communities from different geographical areas.

Current projects

  • Member of the AGYA Working Group Innovation
  • 2016-2021: DYNASORE / Dynamical magnetic excitations with spin-orbit interaction in realistic nanostructures, funded with a European Research Council Consolidator Grant.
  • Functional Nanoscale Structure Probe and Simulation Laboratory (Funsilab) funded by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers.
  • Experimental and theoretical investigation of atomic defects in metallic nanostructures funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
  • Collaborations with the Algerian Universities Mouloud Mammeri of Tizi-Ouzou and Badji Mokhtar of Annaba by co-supervising and hosting students as well as hosting Professors during their sabbatical year.
  • Several fellowships from CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) or CAPES & Humboldt Foundation to host Brazilian scientists to work on several topics, ranging from magnetic skyrmions, dynamical transport properties to dynamical magnetic excitations.
